10 ways to ‘Let go’

If you’ve been coming to my yoga classes you might have heard me mention the words ‘LET GO’

What is letting go? 

Letting go allows you to find peace – something we have all got to do and the sooner the better.

Letting go doesn’t mean you don’t care about something.

It is not equivalent to saying things like ‘its fine’ or ‘whatever’ – it is not giving up.

Letting go isn’t always easy but letting go IS the bravest thing you can do.

What does letting go allow you to do?

Letting go enables you to have clarity of mind and ride the peaks and troughs of life with ease. let-go-594531_1280

How do we do it? Here are some tips: 

1. Let go of comparing yourself to everyone else                                                        

 We live in a judgemental society. When you feel jealousy and envy emerge place them in an imaginary box and throw them away. Learn to see them as negative patterns of thought and work on letting them go.

2. Let go of complaining.

Start a daily practice of meditation to assist you in calming down the mental chatter and find a solution or acceptance. Take action or accept.

3. Let go of ‘stuff’ and clutter around you

Giving things away is a simple yet intense process involving both loss and liberation. Try it!

4. Let go of controlling everyone and everything

Let go of wanting to control people, of wanting to change them. Instead, focus on yourself and be the shining example. Be the compassionate center.” ~ Leo Babauta

5. Let go of your need to stick to the plan.

“We must let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the one that is waiting for us.” ~ Joseph Campbell

6. Let go of negativity

Every waking moment we talk to ourselves about the things we experience. Our self-talk, the thoughts we communicate to ourselves, in turn control the way we feel and act.”  ~ John Lembo

7. Let go of who you think you are and allow yourself to simply ‘be’

“Accepting means you allow yourself to feel whatever it is you are feeling at that moment. It is part of the isness of the Now. You can’t argue with what is. Well, you can, but if you do, you suffer.”  ~ Eckhart Tolle –

8. Let go of procrastination

The first step to letting go of procrastination is letting go of the outcome – let go of the fear of failure and not being good enough or disappointing people. Take action. Just do it. Now!

9. Let go of attachment

Buddha writes“You can only lose what you cling to.”

10. Let go of forcing yourself to release emotions

Take the intention to let go every day and recognise it as a practice rather than a goal to achieve and move on from.
